Beginning English Smocking by Hand
Learning to smock by hand is so much fun! We will practice basic smocking stitches on pleated fabric,
and then create a Christmas ornament with smocked detail from Pink Hollybush Designs (see photo
above, used by permission) for the class project. Once you learn the technique, you will want to smock
classic children?'s garments for your little ones, or even women?s fine clothing with touches of smocking.
I will bring my entire collection of smocked clothes and items to give you ideas about where you can go
with your new skill. Don?t want to sew the garments? You can order and smock pre-made blank
childrens clothes that are already constructed and ready for you to do the fun part. Or make a lovely
smocked sampler to frame for your own home or as a gift. We will discuss other forms of smocking that
you will want to learn, such as picture smocking, American smocking, and others.
